Abstract
Relation-centered Initial Contact in Special Education and in Psychotherapy with Children, Adolescents and Families. The text argues that within the initial parent contact fostering the relationship is a still more important goal than gaining diagnostic information. It proposes a concept of how to manage an initial contact. Client-centered therapists developed quite different ways of how to design the initial interview in regard to the aims and participation of children and adolescents. Each of them evidentially are of practical worth; a heuristic overview values the different methods according to advantages, disadvantages and indications. The present concept describes diverse process-elements of the conversation and offers examples for possible interventions. The therapist can modify them in weight and timing depending on the process-dynamic. Children, if anyhow possible, should participate and be protected within this process. The therapist is active and in parts process-directive.
