Abstract
The client-centred understading and therapy of psychotrauma. A client-centred understanding of psychotrauma and of the development of posttraumatic psychopathology is presented. The psychophysical reaction in a traumatic situation is described and the experience of incongruence in the posttraumatic reaction followed by efforts to overcome the state of incongruence by integrating the traumatic experience which may end up in a chronified posttraumatic stress-disorder or even personality disorder. Dissociative defense mechanisms are especially underlined. It is demonstrated that psychodynamic and behavior therapeutic models concerning the essentials of the treatment of posttraumatic stress-disorders emphasize client-centred ideas — but never name them explicitly as client-centred positions.
