Abstract

Difficulties and chances in training physicians in Client-centered Therapy. We report on our experience in teaching physicians in Client-centered Therapy (CCT). Non-directiveness and empathic and non-invasive attitude are the typical characteristics of the CCT which challenge the attitudes of physicians. At the beginning of a workshop in CCT it is difficult for physicians to incorporate an attitude of listening and empathic understanding towards the client. But after overcoming some first difficulties they get a great profit from this education in CCT, which helps them to change the therapeutic attitude towards the client in many situations. This method has not been yet acknowledged by German health insurance institutions, therefore there are still only a few physicians which continue to identify themselves with CCT after finishing education.
