Abstract

Research on the effectiveness of client-/person-centered and experiential psychotherapy 1991–2008. A narrative review. This review describes research studies in person-centered and experiential psychotherapies published between 1991 and 2008. The paper is conceptualized as a narrative review. It focuses on a general evaluation of the effectiveness of person-centered and experiential psychotherapies in a wide range of therapeutic applications. The studies are presented and discussed separately for different application areas of psychotherapy. The current discourse in psychotherapy research and some meta-analytic studies are integrated into the discussion. In general, the research studies published in the last 18 years confirm a good effectiveness of person-centered and experiential psychotherapies for different groups of clients and also for a wide range of applications. This review aims to provide a foundation for a quality assurance discussion in psychotherapy.
