Abstract
Resonance — confrontation — exchange. Person centered psychotherapy as a co-creative process. This exploration of the bipolar nature of the person-centred relationship in psychotherapy and counselling describes such a relationship as being-with and being-counter. The focus is on the confronting aspect of the encounter — so far much less investigated for the therapeutic practice — and on the personal exchange as an expression of dialogue. Different forms of resonance are explored as the reaction of the therapist to what is going on in therapy. Finally, criteria are developed, when confrontation and exchange in psychotherapy and counselling are person-centred and when they are not.
