Abstract
Part II: »That was an important step to squeeze myself better into my self-concept« — On reconstruction of the self-gestalt of a patient and its development in the course of psychotherapy based on a single case study. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possibility of reconstructing the self-gestalt and its development in psychotherapy on a phenomenal level. The empirical study is based on the principles of grounded theory and arrives at the conclusion that the client’s self-gestalt is distinctly recognizable if all patterns of client’s behavior are empathically understood in connection with corresponding “self-definitions” which act as synergetic order parameters. In psychotherapy through improving the existing patterns of behavior of the self-gestalt psychological strain caused by symptoms diminish rapidly. Structural changes of the self-gestalt, however, result slowly and parallel to qualitative changes in the therapeutic relationship.
