Abstract

Unconditional positive regard in Person Centered Psychotherapy. We start with a description of the development of the concept of unconditional positive regard within the process of Rogers`conceptualization of Client-Centered-Therapy. The concept underwent some existential changings in the course of time while being adapted and translated into what is today defined as the Person-Centered-Approach. There is especially a substantial difference between the concepts of empathy and acceptance as defined by cognitive and behavior therapists and unconditional positive (empathic) regard in Rogers`conceptualizations. Modern neuropsychology for instance when concerned with oxytocin and mirror neurons produces scientific results which are compatible to the highest degree with Rogers`concepts of he conditions for psychological development in a therapeutic contact.
