Abstract
Person-Centered Psychotherapy in the Humanistic Paradigm: An Assessment of the Current Situation. Nationally and internationally, “humanistic psychotherapy” has increasingly been proposed in recent years as a collective term for psycho-therapeutic approaches with common roots. In this article, we attempt to reflect on this development from the perspective of person-centered psychotherapy: The various humanistic psychotherapies have theoretical commonalities and share identity-forming characteristics. Person-centered psychotherapy can be understood as the central approach within humanistic psycho-therapies. Analogously, variants within Person-Centered Psychotherapy are to be understood as more or less independent developments within the approach. The development of psychotherapy lives from this field of tension of identity formation via demarcation and commonality. This field of tension is explored, from which concluding theses are formed, including that a humanistic psychotherapy as a method-integrative project is viewed critically.
