Abstract
On Person-Centered Psychotherapy Training in Austria – Retrospective, Current Status, and Outlook
An overview of training characteristics in Austria from the beginning to the present state and future perspectives is provided. Thereby, it becomes evident that person-centered psychotherapy training is highly professionalized and performs well in terms of quantitative data. Not least, this is due to the psychotherapy law of 1990 which in its liberal spirit enabled the recognition of a variety of methods and more or less free access to training. Both the old and the new psychotherapy law are outlined in their key aspects. The diversity of the training assocations and their quality are also highlighted. An empirical section depicts costs, duration and the extent of training therapy and supervision, compared to psychodynamic, CBT, systemic and other humanistic training programs. Finally, specific challenges that the academization of training entails are briefly discussed.
