Abstract

Relationship and technique: Concepts of relationship and disorder specific treatment practice in person-centred psychotherapy. Because Person-Centred Therapy is defined as a therapy of relationship it is necessary to clarify the primary concepts of this relationship. In addition, I attempt to explain how to integrate relationship with therapy technique, i.e. how the therapist’s concept of relationship is put into practice. A disorder specific approach is both process-oriented and content-oriented, i.e. it is considered in terms of a sequence of themes which are relevant to a particular disorder. The key issues involved in a borderline disorder are chosen to illuminate this approach with the intention of demonstrating how the principles of a disorder specific approach work in practice.
