Erfahrungen psychischer und körperlicher Gewalt: Ein Schulungsprogramm für Personen, die schwer traumatisierte Opfer terroristischer Gewalt beraten und im Alltag betreuen

Abstract

Communication with victims of war and terror. An educational program for social workers, cultural mediators and volunteers. This paper summarizes the development of an education program for counseling of and everyday communication with refugees who had become victims of war and terror conceptualized and worked out in 2015 and 2016. Target groups of this educational program were social workers, volunteers who had regular contact with refugees, and particularly cultural mediators. Cultural mediators are native speakers of the refugees’ languages who had received a special training for interpretation and for introducing refugees to the organization of everyday life in Germany.
The objective of the educational program is the transfer of knowledge on trauma and of communication skills according to the principles of person-centered approach and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET). Professional and volunteer helpers learn provide a safe space and to encourage the refugees to talk about the traumatic events.
