Abstract
Concept of man and incongruence therapy. On convergence in psychotherapy. When tendencies to self-actualization
and actualization are incongruent, this leads to states of tension and inner confusion, which may
induce people to seek psychotherapy. The question is which psychotherapy procedures are used to broach the
issue of these incongruences at all and to deal with them. In order to find indications of an initial answer in
this overview, the concepts of man of the Cognitive-behaviour Therapy and of the Humanistic Psychotherapy
are compared. Furthermore, pioneers of incongruence theory are cited who have contributed to a humanistic
understanding of the incongruence. It is clear from the study that at what are referred to as turning points in the
therapy, even though the discrepancy between the perceived self and organismic experience hardly ever shifts
into permanent congruence by leaps and bounds, it may still be processed by the perception of incongruence
and perhaps gradually reduced.
