Abstract
Psychological interventions in client-centered psychotherapy. We are not sure that unconditional positive regard expressed via the verbalization of empathic understanding is a therapeutic intervention. The client-centered therapeutic relationship has been described in several ways which vary in their level of abstraction. These different levels form the basis for the formulation of two general rules of interventions. In addition we define four principles which underlie therapeutic behavior: non-directivity, empathic listening, focusing on specific contents and verbalization of emotional experiencing and last not least we show tools which may help to stabilize the therapeutic relationship.
