Abstract
The “true” self as an experience – the congruent self as a scientific construct for this. A response to Frank Staemmler for understanding self-actualizing in PCA. The article takes position on explanations of Staemmler in this number concerning the concepts of dialogical self. It is worked out, that for the Person-Centered Approach – in the meaning of Carl Rogers – no “relational turn” is necessary. One can understand Rogers’ view of man much less individualistic than Staemmler and others maintain: the connection of the person with the environment is rooted in the theory of the PCA. The assumption of a “true” self, which is criticized by Staemmler as outdated, is explained and illustrated in its meaning as a congruent self. Reasons are given, why the author attaches little importance to the divergences between or within the theories for the practice of Person-Centered Psychotherapy.
