Abstract

Facing dismay. A person-centered concept of crisis-intervention for psychotherapeutic treatment of raped women with acute stress reaction. The article reflects the author’s practice in a counselling center for raped women. Women’s acute stress reaction during the act and the days and weeks later is described from the view of afflicted women and as the person-centered approach sees it. A concept of personcentered crisis intervention as an appropriate psychotherapeutic answer to this state of emergency is shown. The importance of a person-centered attitude, with interventions based on empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence is emphasized.
