Abstract

Person-centered therapy with traumatized victims of war and torture. In therapy for victims of war and torture the person-centered approach has to offer more than just an increase in the patient‘s confidence and a basic psychic stabilization. Besides strengthening the patients’ own ability to deal with their posttraumatic symptoms, the person-centered therapy aims, above all, to support as far as possible the integration of traumatic experience. In practical work, more than the traumatic experiences as such, the inner response towards these experiences is of evident importance. As a theoretical framework, a brief introductory part of this text reflects the posttraumatic psychodynamics under the aspect of the actualizing tendency.
