Abstract
(Complicated) grief after suicide. Person-centered understanding and counseling of the bereaved after suicide. Nearly each person knows somebody who committed suicide. The closer the relationship is experienced the deeper hits the loss. This article illustrates how suicide survivors react and with which specific thematic issues they are confronted, e. g. guilt and shame, rejection, stigma. This makes clear, that bereavement after suicide does not profoundly differ from bereavement after other causes of death, but that suicide survivors are at higher risk to experience complicated grieving processes. Furthermore the reactions of bereavement after suicide will be described from a person-centered point of view. It will be shown that a person-centered therapeutic relationship, as specified by Rogers, is of particular virtue and importance in grief counseling.
