Abstract
The person-centered therapy is considered from the point of view of therapeutic presence. At first, it is clarified that a certain level of mindful presence is indispensable as an inherent agent of the person-centered approach. In order to consciously promote its quality and continuity, the cultivation of mindfulness in early Buddhist teaching practice is outlined – as a timeless and prototypical primordial form of awareness training. Subsequently, it is worked out how elements of it can be transferred to key aspects of the person-centered therapy process, in particular in terms of congruent self-perception, accurate empathic client perception and the awareness of involuntary valuations.
