Abstract

Person-centered painting therapy — A focusing-process on paper. To watch the carrying forward of the experiencing-process. This article highlights the importance of person-centered ‘Malraum’ and addresses the question, how it can be described as an accompanying Focusing process. The present paper also demonstrates the principles of the person-centered approach in terms of the practical as well as the active handling of the imaging processes. In this context, the question of the influence of the continuous painted Focusing process, which is therapeutically accompanied in long distances, will be examined on the direct work with images on the practical Focusing application. Furthermore, changes will be analysed to the image and to the internal psychological processes, as well as the cause of these two processes. Through a third component — the externalisation of the inner landscape — the paper argues, that the therapeutic assistance of a continuous comparison between the painting person and his image, can promote personal development.
