Abstract

Körperorientierte Gruppentherapie — A Client-Centered Therapy Approach to Chronic Pain. In the treatment of chronic pain, an interdisciplinary therapeutic approach integrating both psychological and psychotherapeutic support has become state of the art. The availability of appropriate therapy in Austria, however, is still not fully established. In this work, a multimodal pain therapy project with an emphasis on psychotherapy will be presented, in which patients suffering chronic pain were provided accompanying evaluation in orthopedic outpatient rehabilitation. Of particular note are the implementation of the client-centered approach, and a continuous interdisciplinary group leadership by a psychotherapist and a physiotherapist. After an introduction presenting the current clinical situation in the field of chronic back pain treatment, the procedure of this pain therapy program will be discussed with particular focus on the client-centered approach. In conclusion, this work will present the results of evaluation, based upon a comprehensive study of accompanying questionnaires. These results reflect encouraging changes with regard to pain and pain-related biopsychosocial factors.
