Abstract

Danger: Processes of persons in risk situations. The occurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic serves as an example of how individuals experience themselves and others in a hazardous situation, come to terms with it, and ultimately cope with the situation. Based on everyday observations of widely differing coping processes, this paper asks which personal, social, and societal structures influence the coping process. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 individuals of different settings at the beginning of the 2020/2021 pandemic and at its end in 2023. The qualitative analysis showed that all of them were concerned with the issues of disease and health and the importance of social contacts, but that there were major differences in health maintenance, in the assessment of risk, and in the extent to which they agreed with, critically questioned, or rejected official regulations, all of which were shaped by the relevant social environment. The results are interpreted from a person centered perspective.
