Abstract
In addition to the classic medium of non-fiction, knowledge content for children can also be conveyed through narrative children's and young adult literature. The linguistic analysis model proposed in this article is intended to enable a genre-specific classification of the knowledge representations according to their structure, presentation and complexity. The model has so far been used to contrastively analyze stories for children and young adults from the subject area of climate/nature conservation in order to uncover differences in the presentation and transfer of knowledge. The model is intended to make it possible to compare the use of specific theme development patterns and to check the explanatory ambition of the text. A pilot study showed that the linking of various linguistic methods in one model can be used profitably. For example, using the model it was found that climate narratives for older readers tend to contain more argumentative passages than those for younger readers. It was also proven that the explanatory ambition of the books is adapted to the intended recipients as a child-friendly accommodation.
