Abstract

The world of experience in professional practice. Theory and practice from the practitioner’s perspective. The professional’s world of experience is characterised by its uniqueness and by an ongoing developmental process. From her perspective as a practitioner, the author explores her relationship with theory, professional practice and science as a background to professional practice. In this context, she refers to professional research and action research. She also describes the “research culture” which has emerged within that practice as an instrument for professional development: The person-centred way of working furthers the development of the therapist’s empathy, which is implicit in the development of the self concept.
