Abstract

Some Lessons Learned from Doing Research on the Significant Therapy Events. In this paper I will focus on selected findings from significant events research on person-centered and similar experiential approaches that can be used in the therapeutic practice of person-centered therapy. First I will introduce the methodology of significant events research. Then I will discuss four of therapy process aspects encountered in this kind of research: the client’s making a meaning from psychotherapy he or she is involved in; the client’s uncertainty about the therapist as a person and as a competent expert; the client’s own construal of learnings from the process of therapy; and collaborative participation of the therapist in the course of person-centered psychotherapy. The paper ends with showing interconnections between above presented aspects of therapy process and their meaning for the development of person-centered therapy.
