Abstract
Internal images and affect adjustment. Clients, who had insufficient experiences with sharing cognitive and affective states with others, often show problems in therapy to realize that the therapist is offering contact. The verbal communication is not sufficient to reach them because their configurations of self are presymbolic. Many experiences are stored in images. If it is possible for the therapist to reactivate these stored images and connect them with earlier experiences, then the self configurations of clients with a fragile and dissociated personality will be supported. Thus the blocked actualizing tendency will be brought into a state of flux.
