Abstract
Emotion-focused therapy. Emotion-focused therapy as presented and investigated by L. Greenberg and his colleagues is an evidence-based therapeutic approach (APA, 2006). It is an integrative treatment that has its roots in the humanistic-experiential tradition. EFT integrates principles for relationship enhancement derived from person-centered psychotherapy with process oriented theory and practice of Gestalt psychotherapy as well as experiential psychotherapy. EFT is focused on the process of emotional change and aims at changing “emotion with emotion”. Differentiation between various types of emotional experiences, empirically based principles of emotional processing and a marker guided approach allow for working systematically with emotion.
