Abstract
“Rogers and Gloria — The current state of research for the session with Gloria”. This review focuses on Carl Rogers’ session with Gloria in Three Approaches to Psychotherapy (Shostrom, 1965) to determine (a) how Rogers’ conversational style functioned to enact his core conditions of empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard and (b) how Gloria experienced and perceived Rogers’s conversational style. 36 studies which analyzed Rogers’ interview with Gloria were found and included. A Meta-Ethnography (Noblit & Hare, 1988) was used to synthesise qualitative and quantitative research to understand and transfer ideas and concepts across different studies. With the exception of the latest research papers results all other results indicate a high significance of Rogers’ and Glorias therapeutic interview.
