Abstract
Give Peace a Chance! — A Contemplation on the Peace Work by Carl Rogers. The present essay deals with Carl Rogers’ international peace work, which has particularly shaped the last ten years of his life. His work in the relief of tensions in political crises earned him a 1987 Nobel Peace Prize nomination. The essay spans a biographical range from Carl Rogers’ first encounters with World War II in his advisory work for the U. S. Air Force to his much-noticed peace efforts with the instrument of the person-centered encounter group in the Northern Ireland conflict, South Africa, the Soviet Union and others in the Central America crisis. Daniel Barenboim’s „The West Eastern Divan Orchestra“ is presented as a contemporary peace project that confirms Carl Rogers’ basic assumptions about conflict resolution. The author’s personal reflections complement the work.
