Abstract
11, gambling disorder and gaming disorder are classified as non-substance-related disorders. In DSM-5 and DSM-5-TR, Internet gaming disorder has been included in the category of conditions for further study. Computer gaming disorder is usually associated with severe social withdrawal, which often begins before gaming and intensifies during the course of the disorder.
These partial causes and consequences lead to internalized contradictions, which are referred to as incongruences in person-centered counseling and psychotherapy, and as discrepancies in motivational interviewing.
Particularly at the beginning of counselling and therapy, the focus is on helping people to cope with the development of addiction and the psychosocial consequences of gambling and gaming disorders. Important topics include debts, feelings of guilt and shame, family conflicts, failure in education or work and the ambivalence of those affected with regard to stopping gaming or gambling.
Studies have shown that cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing are effective psychotherapeutic methods.
