Abstract
Psychotherapy in the cardiac rehabilitation setting — considerations from a client-centred perspective. The following paper deals with the psychotherapeutic treatment of chronically ill patients, that is of persons with a heart condition. A short description of the medical symptoms of a coronary heart condition is followed by a review of the literature on psychosomatic research as well as by possible starting points for psychotherapy (particularly Client-centred psychotherapy). An analysis of the psychotherapeutic process with these patients in an out-patient rehabilitation setting will be used to illustrate the particularities and the difficulties in gaining access to such patients, as well as to attempt to explain the high drop-out rate of these patients.
