Abstract
Carl and Bob. The person-centered approach in interaction with and as part of the American popular culture. The European person-centred community deals with a North American invention. And perhaps that fact bears the reason why it is often such a challenge to strive for congruence between theory and practice. The many peculiarities, which constitute the United States of America and thus also affect the person Carl Rogers, are to be considered: the settlement and establishment by protestant Europeans (puritanism), the typically American philosophical direction of pragmatism and some popular creations of the American culture during that time, in which Carl Rogers, “Americas most influential advisor and psychotherapist — and one of its most prominent psychologists” (Kirschenbaum 2002), was active.
