Abstract

Large group work and the “middle state”. The effect of group, sensible dialogue, and innovative learning. In this paper John
Wood, one of the pioneers of person-centred work in large groups, discusses the experiences in large group encounters within a broad cultural framework, particularly regarding exceptional mental states (“the middle state”). He describes its conditions and outcomes, the necessity of careful preparation and organization of large group workshops, their possible extraordinary learning experiences and the significance for psychotherapy.
