Abstract

The self as guarantor and troublemaker of psychic health. Concepts of the Self and their salutogenic and pathogenic aspects from outside and within the PCA are listed. Their representations in the “Differenzielle Inkongruenz Modell der Gesprächspsychotherapie” can be economically measured by the “Regensburger-Inkongruenz-Analyse-Inventar (RIAI)“, a questionnaire for self assessment. It provides the empirical data of the investigation. Five expectations on salutogenic and pathogenic self-aspects are tested by eight hypotheses on the relationships between healthy resources, self-congruent experiences, disturbance by sources and symptoms of incongruence, and main symptoms of DSM-Axis-I disorders. The results of N = 503 patients and N = 445 non-patients are compared. Results confirm the tested assumptions on the self as a guarantor and as well a troublemaker of psychic health by statistically highly significant and clinically relevant correlations.
