Abstract
Is the Person-Centered Approach in need of a “relational turn”? A critical commentary on the article “Relationality and Dialogical Self ” by Frank Staemmler. With the term “relational turn”, Frank Staemmler refers to a “postmodern change of paradigm” in psychotherapy from a so far strongly “individualistic” towards a more and more “dialogical” understanding of the concept of “self ”. He thereby considers the theory of self by Rogers to be not (yet) fully relational. A closer look into Rogers’ theory of the development of self reveals the opposite: Rogers and especially Gendlin have both considered and anticipated the relational
perspective in their theories.
