Abstract

In clearly describable problem situations for which conventional solution schemes already exist, we can creatively apply them to the new situation. However, as soon as a standard scheme can no longer be applied, we can distinguish three levels of purposelessness: When the situation becomes unmanageable, person- centered-experiential individual work can be useful; when schemas or individual solution details have to be developed a new together in groups because the boundary conditions of the situation diffuse into the open, experiential communication can be helpful. And when rules and issues also become fluid in an unmanageable situation because non-compensable risks emerge, it can be helpful to establish the creation of free space as a cultural technique. The complexity of the situation, therefore, determines what degree of purposelessness we should choose. The degree of uncertainty in a situation is layered, and the degree of resolution intention we can choose to meet that situation with appropriate awareness should be as well.
