Abstract
“No alcohol is no solution either.” — Controlled drinking from a person-centered perspective. In the treatment of alcoholism, concepts with an alternative goal have been developed in addition to the prevailing abstinence-oriented treatment models. Controlled drinking programs guide consumption reduction and represent an expansion of the range of treatments. With reference to existing concepts of person-centered psychotherapy in connection with experience from outpatient practice, it is made clear that the person-centered approach is particularly suitable for supporting controlled consumption. The possibilities and limitations of controlled drinking in the context of psychotherapeutic treatment are pointed out and it is shown that the essential conditions for psychotherapy can be created if the reduction in consumption is stable and far-reaching.
